Up for your consideration we have a 1969 Gibson Les Paul Custom from the private collection of Ed Roland of Collective Soul.  This increasingly rare guitar was played by him in many studio sessions and live shows. and it's easy to see why.  This is easily one of the most easy-playing Customs we've ever had in the shop.

The guitar appears to be all original with a one-piece body and weighs in at 10 lbs. exactly. The neck pickup measures 7.8 and the bridge is 7.2 in impedance so not too hot and not too mellow.  The neck is three-piece, but there is no "Made in USA" on the back of the headstock and no valute on the neck, indicating it could be a very late 1968, but in these transition years of Gibson who knows?  The serial number of 851403 is clear and most decoders say 1969.

Reverb says "1969 is a very transitional year for the Custom which accounts for a great deal variation of values within the year. In 1969, there are examples with single-piece bodies instead of the multi-ply body, no neck valute, and no 'made in USA' stamp that fetch substantially higher resale prices than those with these elements."

The guitar has the original frets which have been crowned in the past but are pretty worn down and would most likely benefit from a re-fret to play in peak form. The neck profile is a slim 60s style and is quite comfortable. The truss rod moves freely and the neck has the correct relief for nice even playable action. The front strap button was moved at one time and does show a hole from the previous position.

The guitar has normal playwear for an instrument of this age. No damage or headstock repairs, just normal honest play wear. Comes with period correct Gibson case that has one latch that is broken, but it's possible its not the "original" one that was sold with it 54 years ago and may be an early 70's case.  Because this is a transitional time for Gibson we're comfortable calling this case original.  The guitar also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Ed Roland.
